While the semi-automatic pistol may be the most often sought after defensive arm, it is not always the best choice for everyone seeking a handgun for lawful self-defense. This is true regardless of whether the defensive need is for permitted concealed carry or home and property defense.

The revolver, particularly models in .357 Magnum and .38 Special calibers, offer a number of advantages over semi-automatic pistols in terms of reliability, simplicity of operation, operation by those with issues of hand strength, and effectiveness of caliber. The disadvantages of a lower on board ammunition capacity can be overcome by the use of proper loading devices, and technique of operation.

Taught by two central Ohio certified police firearms instructors with over sixty years of combined professional experience, Advanced Revolver Operation will focus on enhancing the student’s skills and understanding of the advantages the revolver still offers for those in need of an effective self-defense tool.

Two hours of this course will be spent in the classroom, and the other two will be spent on the shooting range.

Course Requirements

  1. A .357 Magnum or .38 Special revolver in safe working condition and suitable for either concealed carry or home defense
  2. A strong side belt carry holster with thumb break or equivalent retention device and proper trouser belt (a paddle holster with retention device is also acceptable)
  3. A speed reloading device (the Safariland Comp II speedloader is preferred, HKS speedloaders or TUFF Products Tuff Strip or Safariland Speed Strip will also be acceptable)
  4. 50 rounds of standard velocity (non +P) .38 Special ammunition (regardless of whether your handgun is chambered in .357 Magnum or .38 Special) with either full metal jacketed or lead ROUNDNOSE bullets weighing between 130 to 158 grains in weight.
